Texas Intern Program:

We need you to participate as a Texas BPA Intern at the State Leadership Conference. Information about how to apply and scheduling will be posted online in February once plans are finalized. We look forward to having you join us and grow your leadership skills as you earn community service hours and conference experience.

Torch Awards Program

Looking for a way to track your community service and leadership activities in high school? Using the Torch Awards program, you can document your activities and service and be recognized for your contributions to your community through BPA Torch Awards. BPA Cares Program

Applications are not required for the Merit Scholar, The Professional Cup or Membership Explosion Award. These awards are given directly through National BPA.


Scholarship Opportunities

There are 22 Texas BPA and 1 CTAT scholarship. The applicant with the highest score of all the entries will receive the "Mildred Woerndel Scholarship" worth $2,500.00

The above titled scholarships are named after two former teachers and pillars in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) community. Due to their dedication and contributions to the success of Texas BPA, these scholarships are named in their honor.


Mildred Woerndel shared a love of teaching and for Business Professionals of America that spanned across the state and national levels. She taught at Seguin High School for 43 years, where she was a Business Professionals of America chapter advisor. She also served as the area advisor for her region and served on the Texas State BPA Board of Directors as the Secondary Advisory Committee Chair and the Area 3 Advisor representative. She also served on the National Business Professionals of America Board of Trustees and the National Host Committee. Ms. Woerndel passed away on January 20, 2016. She was a BPA legend and mentored many students and advisors over the years. Her passion was for youth to have opportunities through BPA and we are proud to offer this scholarship in her honor.






Vickie Thomas has been recognized with the BPA Lifetime Dedication Award. She has positively affected thousands of students and advisors not only within her home state of Texas, but across the country by committing herself to building and growing many programs, services and events. She has participated in many of the organization's milestones, including the evolution of the organization from the Office Education Association (OEA) into what is now Business Professionals of America (BPA). She worked in Houston ISD, served as the State Advisor for Texas for ten years and retired as the Assistant Director of Education at the National Center for Business Professionals of America. Vickie Thomas exemplifies BPA leadership and integrity.






CTAT Scholarship - The Career & Technical Association of Texas is the leading advocate advancing career and technical education and enabling educators to prepare students for college and careers. They are a strong advocate for teachers and student organizations and work to ensure that career and technical education needs are met through educational policies and programs. They have provided this scholarship to support our students and encourage them as they prepare for careers in a world-class work force.



• Applicants must currently be a paid State and National member of BPA
• Applicants must be a graduating senior planning to continue his/her education
• Applicants must have participated in a BPA competition (Regional, State or National)

The top 25 scores based on the above guidelines will be notified for an interview. This interview will be an additional 100 points of the total score, and scholarship monies will be awarded to the top 23 applicants.

Interview Process
Interviews will take place during the month of February 2018.
The top 25 chosen will be notified for an interview. The actual interview will be a Virtual Interview. Recipients will dress for success and answer set questions by the Interview Board. Interview score will be added to application process score.

The top 23 will qualify for the scholarship awards listed above and recognized at the Awards Ceremony at the BPA State Leadership Conference. A certificate will be issued at this time in lieu of the actual check.

Receipt of Scholarship
Recipients must follow the directions below to receive the scholarship:
● 2018-2019 Scholarship required documentation must be postmarked by January 18, 2019 to receive scholarship.
● Provide an official registration with student number from the post-secondary school. The receipt must provide recipients complete name, address, and social security number.
● A letter of acceptance to a school will not be accepted and proof of registration and enrollment must be provided.
● Per the student request, a check can be mailed directly to the school or paid to the recipient.
● A check will be issued and sent via certified mail by the treasurer when all requirements are met.
